Afterschool Program Quality

The Saint Paul Public Schools staff who coordinate and supervise the 21st Century Community Learning Centers are committed to continually improving and delivering high quality programming for participating youth.

The process of ensuring high quality programming requires time, patience, knowledge and experience. We use many tools to ensure programs are on track accomplish goals and are ready for continual improvement. Annually every program site participates in the following activities:

  • Best Practices in Program Design
  • Self Assessment twice a year
  • Improvement Plans twice a year
  • Learning Walks three times per year
  • Annual report to determine outcomes
  • Goal setting once a year
  • Professional development and training three times per year

We use the New York State Afterschool Network (NYSAN) Program Quality Self-Assessment tool to help us get the most out of the process. This tool helps us take a closer look at the following components of our program:

  • Environment and atmosphere
  • Administration and organization
  • Relationships
  • Staffing and Professional Development
  • Programming and Activities
  • Linkages Between Day and Afterschool
  • Youth Participation and Engagement
  • Parent, Family and Community Partnerships
  • Program Sustainability and Growth
  • Measure outcomes and Evaluation
