>Swim Lessons

Water Babies
-children ages 6 months to 2 year old with a parent
Children will be introduced to movements in the water, sing songs and play games. Parents will assist their children with basic arm and leg movements on their front and back.  Child must wear plastic pants or swim diapers in the pools. No disposable diapers allowed.
 
Tiny Tots
-children ages 2-4 years old with a parent
Children will learn water adjustment skills and have fun in the water. Parents will assist their children and further develop arm and leg movement on their front and back and work on going under water.  Child must wear plastic pants or swim diapers in the pools. No disposable diapers allowed.
 
Waders with Parents
-children ages 4-5 years old with a parent
Children with little pool experience will participate with a parent to prepare them for Waders (without a parent). Children will continue to develop and coordinate arm and leg movement on their front and back and are encouraged to begin trying skills with an instructor.
 
Waders
-children ages 4-5 years old (must be 4 by the start of class)
Learn beginning swimming skills and have fun in the water. Children will participate without a parent in the water and will work to coordinate arm and leg movement on their front and back with an instructor and on their own.
 
Tween-Teen Beginning
-tweens and teens ages 11-14 years old
Tween and teens with little or no previous swimming experience will learn beginning swimming skills and get comfortable in the water.   Swimming skills are similar to those taught in American Red Cross Levels 2 and 3.
 
Adult Beginning
-ages 15 and older
This class is for adults with little or no swimming experience and for those who are comfortable in the water but need to learn and improve strokes (similar to American Red Cross Levels 1-3). 
 
Adult Intermediate –Stroke Development
-ages 15 and older
Swimmers work to improve front and back crawl and increase endurance.  Focus will be on technique and stroke refinement.  Swimmers will also be introduced to breaststroke and butterfly.  Swimmers must be able to swim 50 yards (2 lengths of the pool) without stopping.
 
Adult Intermediate -Endurance
-ages 15 and older
Swimmers work on coordination and refinement of all strokes and increase their distances.  Swimmers must be able to swim 100 yards (4 lengths of the pool) without stopping.
 
Adult Advanced
-ages 15 and older
Work on all strokes but emphasis will be on endurance and distance swimming (great for triathlon training).  Swimmers must be able to swim 500 yards (20 lengths of the pool) without stopping.
 
 
>American Red Cross Swim Lessons (ages 5-14)
 
Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills
-For children 5-10 years old. 
Learn basic personal water safety information and skills to help participants feel comfortable in the water. Most skills are done with support or assistance. Included skills are:
  • Front and back floats (3 seconds)
  • Front and back glides (2 body lengths)
  • Rolling from front to back and back to front
  • Flutter kick and dolphin kick (2 body lengths)
  • Breaststroke arms and elementary backstroke arms (2 body lengths)
  • Front and back crawl (2 body lengths)
  • Water Safety Skills
 
Level 2: Fundamental Aquatic Skills
-For children 5-10 years old and have completed Level 1 or have equivalent skills.
Swimmers must be comfortable in the water and will work on locomotion skills. Skills are to be completed independently by the student. Included skills are:
  • Front and back floats (front- 5 seconds, back- 15 seconds)
  • Front and back glides (2 body lengths)
  • Elementary backstroke arms (5 body lengths)
  • Front and back crawl (5 body lengths)
  • Treading water (15 seconds)
  • Water Safety Skills
 
Level 3: Stroke Development
-For children 5-10 years old and have completed Level 2 or have equivalent skills.
Swimmers build on front and back crawl and are introduced to deep water skills. Skills are to be completed independently by the student. Included skills are:
  • Jump into deep water
  • Sitting and kneeling dives
  • Rotary breathing (10 times)
  • Survival floats (30 seconds)
  • Treading water (30 seconds)
  • Underwater streamlines on front (3-5 body lengths)
  • Front crawl and elementary back stroke (15 yards)
  • Back crawl and scissors kick (10 yards)
  • Water Safety Skills
 
Level 4: Stroke Improvement
-For children 6-14 years old and have completed Level 3 or have equivalent skills.
Swimmers work to improve front crawl, back crawl, and elementary backstroke and increase endurance and are introduced to new strokes. Skills are to be completed independently by the student. Included skills are:
  • Compact and stride dives
  • Treading water (2 minutes)
  • Feet-first surface dive
  • Underwater streamlines on back (3-5 body lengths)
  • Front crawl and elementary backstroke (25 yards)
  • Back crawl, sidestroke, breaststroke, butterfly (15 yards)
  • Front and back crawl open turns
  • Water safety skills
 
Level 5: Stroke Refinement
-For children 6-14 years old and have completed Level 4 or have equivalent skills.
Swimmers work on coordination and refinement of all strokes and increase their distances. Skills are to be completed independently by the student. Included skills are:
  • Shallow-angle dives
  • Tuck and pike surface dives
  • Front and back crawl flip turns
  • Treading water (5 minutes)
  • Front crawl and elementary backstroke (50 yards)
  • Back crawl, sidestroke, breaststroke, butterfly (25 yards)
  • Standard skull (30 seconds)
  • Water safety skills
 
Level 6: Personal Water Safety
-For children 7-14 years old and have completed Level 5 or have equivalent skills.
Swimmers work to refine strokes so they can swim with more ease, efficiency, and power over greater distances. Skills are to be completed independently by the student. Included skills are:
  • Feet-first, tuck, and pike surface dives
  • Survival floats (5 minutes)
  • Survival swimming (10 minutes)
  • Treading water, kicking only (2 minutes)
  • Front crawl and elementary backstroke (100 yards)
  • Back crawl, sidestroke, breaststroke, butterfly (50 yards)
  • Front and back crawl open turns and flip turns
  • Sidestroke, breaststroke, and butterfly turns
  • Water safety skills
 
Level 6: Fitness Swimmer
Swimmers concentrate on swimming with more ease, efficiency, and power over greater distances with an emphasis on training techniques. Skills are to be completed independently by the student. Included skills are:
  • Front crawl and elementary backstroke (100 yards)
  • Back crawl, sidestroke, breaststroke, butterfly (50 yards)
  • Open turns and flip turns
  • Circle swimming
  • Using a pace clock and other training equipment
  • Setting up an exercise program
  • Calculating target heart rate
  • Other aquatic exercises
  • Water safety skills
 
Level 6: Fundamentals of Diving
Swimmers continue to refine strokes and turns and are introduced to dives from poolside and one-meter board. Skills are to be completed independently by the student. Included skills are:
  • Front crawl and elementary backstroke (100 yards)
  • Back crawl, sidestroke, breaststroke, butterfly (50 yards)
  • Open turns and flip turns
  • Body alignment and control
  • Kneeling and standing dives from the side and from the board
  • One and two part take-offs
  • Tuck and pike jumps
  • Tuck and pike dives
  • Water safety skills
 
 
>Family
 
Structured Pool Play for Parent and Child
-ages 6 months to 4 years with a parent
Children and their parent will sing songs, play games and have free time during this guided play time. Children in diapers must wear plastic pants or swim diapers in the pool. No disposable diapers allowed.
 
Family Open Swim
Splash into one of our pools with us!  Children 8 years of age and under must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian.  Children 4 years of age and under must be accompanied in the pool by a parent or guardian at all times. 
 
 
>Water Exercise
 
Aqua Treaders
-ages 15 and older
Combine the basics of swimming, synchronized swimming, water polo, and deep warer vertical exercises into a super calorie-burning workout.  Participants must be able to tread water vertically in deep water with no floatation device.
 
Hydro Power Fit
-ages 15 and older
This challenging, high-intensity class will include cardiovascular and strength workouts both in and out of the water. Intermediate swimming skills or higher recommended but not required. Some exercises will be done in deep water but can be modified if necessary. 
 
Prenatal Water Exercise
-ages 15 and older
Help alleviate pain and reduce stress and fatigue while strengthening postural muscles and building endurance in preparation for labor and delivery.  Recommended for women at least 12 weeks pregnant.  Doctor's approval required.
 
Swimnastics
-ages 15 and older
Swimnastics’ shallow water exercises include stretching, toning, and light aerobic exercise. Class takes place in a therapeutic pool (average water temperature is 90 degrees) and is great for anyone with arthritis or joint pain.  No swimming skills required.
 
Water Workout
-ages 15 and older
Exercises are designed to tone your body and improve cardiovascular fitness while working out to music.  No swimming skills required. Some exercises may be done in deep water with flotation equipment. 
 
Water Pilates
-ages 15 and older
This class combines both Pilates and water aerobic exercises in order to increase abdominal and core muscle strength. No swimming skills required. Some exercises may be done in deep water with flotation equipment
 
Water Walking
-ages 15 and older
Experience a full range of walking-through-water exercises to encourage core stability, balance, and preventig falls.
 
Water Yoga
-ages 15 and older
Participants work to increase coordination, flexibility, and muscular endurance through adapted yoga movements in the water. Class takes place in a therapeutic pool (average water temperature is 90 degrees) and is great for anyone with arthritis or joint pain. No swimming skills required. Some exercises may be done in deep water with flotation equipment. 
 
 
>American Red Cross Training Courses
 
Lifeguarding
-ages 15 and older
Become certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. Learn the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond quickly and effectively to aquatics emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries. Attendance at all class sessions is mandatory.

Age prerequisite: 15 years of age by the last day of the class.
Skill prerequisite 1: 300 yard endurance swim using front crawl and breaststroke.
Skill prerequisite 2: Complete a timed skill sequence including a 20 yard swim, retrieval of a 10 lb. object from 7 feet deep, swim 20 yards carrying the object and exit the water within 1 minute and 40 seconds.
 
 
Water Safety Aide
-ages 14 and older
Teach children and adults how to swim. Learn how to assist American Red Cross Water Safety Instructors in teaching swim lessons. Must demonstrate a strong sense of maturity and responsibility throughout the course and be competent swimmers. Candidates must posses Level 4 swimming skills or higher and pass a skill pre-test conducted on first day.
