Adult Enrichment Instructor

COMMUNITY EDUCATION GENERAL INFORMATION

SPPS Community Education Instructors provide safe, engaging, enrichment programs for participants. This position reports to the Community Education Program Coordinator.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION GOALS

Participants gain the skills and receive encouragement to continue pursuing subjects on their own after a class
Affordable class fees that expand accessibility while covering all class expenses
High quality instruction taught by instructors who are experts in their field
Provide opportunities that meet the current needs of the community
Convenient class locations offering access to community buildings
Accuracy and integrity with all communications and interactions

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

Expertise in their subject field
Ability to develop and deliver engaging learning opportunities to adults
Excellent communication skills
Ability to work with a variety of staff including clerks, teachers, custodians, administrators, instructors and other support staff
Reliable and punctual with dependable transportation

RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental responsibilities:

Create class plans that ensure high quality programming.
Maintain a safe, engaging and welcoming environment for participants.
Work with the Community Education Program Coordinator to ensure the effectiveness of the program.
Maintain on-going communication with the Community Education Program Coordinator, staff and other key members regarding program effectiveness and issues.
Participate in Community Education staff trainings and other meetings as appropriate.
Ensure that spaces used for instruction are left clean and that daytime teacher’s materials are left untouched.
Maintain positive relationship with staff, including building aides, custodians and staff from other programs.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Deadlines

Fall submissions are due May 1. Fall session is September-December.

Winter submissions are due August 1. Winter session is January-March.

Spring and Summer submissions are due December 1. Spring session is April-May. Summer session is June-August.

Submission Guidelines

Please submit separate entries for each class you propose to teach. Please note:

All classes are scheduled at the discretion of Community Education Staff.
A submitted proposal is NOT an approved class. You will be contacted only if we are interested in your proposal.
If we choose to offer your class, you will need to complete the necessary paperwork for employment with Saint Paul Public Schools, including a criminal background check.
You do not need to resubmit a proposal for the same class each season. We keep all proposals on file and will contact you if we'd like to use it in the future.
